Easily save images and files to a database
written 4697 days agoStoring images directly in databases has its pros and cons but the purpose of this article isn’t to argue one method over the other. This article will simply show you how POG can be used to easily store image files into your database, along with any meta data you wish to attach to the image such as date, size etc.
First, create a file upload form:
<form method="post" action="upload.php" enctype="multipart/form-data">
<input type="file" name="image_name"/>
<input type="submit" value="upload image"/>
</form>
Second, generate an ImageStore object with the following attributes:
image_data (LONGBLOB)
image_type (VARCHAR(50))
image_description (VARCHAR(255))
Third, paste the following code in upload.php:
$imageData = file_get_contents($_FILES['image_name']['tmp_name']);
$imageType = file_get_contents($_FILES['image_name']['type']);
$imageStore = new ImageStore();
$imageStore -> image_data = $imageData;
$imageStore -> image_type = $imageType;
$imageStore -> image_description = "an image";
if ($imageStore -> Save())
{
echo "image successfully saved";
}
and saving an image to a database is as simple as that. You’ve now stored the uploaded picture in a database table.
Retrieving the image is also pretty easy:
header("Content-type: ".$imageStore->image_type);
echo $imageStore -> image_data;
